The Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Learning and Development (Early Years Educator) is for learners who work in, or want to work with children in Early Years settings in England only.

It gives learners the opportunity to:

  • Demonstrate competence as an Early Years Educator, Child minder, or Nursery Nurse
  • Develop knowledge and skills related to the specified job roles in early years education
  • Have existing skills recognized
  • Achieve a nationally-recognized Level 3 qualification
  • Develop their own personal growth and engagement in learning

What's Included

The aim of this qualification is to introduce knowledge around areas relating to working with early years.

To achieve the qualification, learners must successfully achieve all mandatory units outlined below.

Unit 1: Understand Children’s Early Years Education and Development
Unit 2: Implementing Early Years Foundation Stage
Unit 3: Diversity, Equality and Inclusion in Early Years Settings
Unit 4: Plan and Provide Effective Teaching and Learning in Early Years Settings
Unit 5: Make Accurate and Productive Use of Assessment in Early Years Settings
Unit 6: Develop Effective and Informed Professional Practice in Early Years Settings
Unit 7: Promote the Health, Safety and Well-being of Children in Early Years Settings
Unit8: Child Protection and Safeguarding
Unit 9: Partnership Working in Early Years

To achieve the qualification the learner must gather a Portfolio of Evidence that shows that they have met the required standard specified in the assessment criteria as well as the requirements of the Early Years Educator Qualifications Assessment Principles.

The evidence for this qualification can take a variety of forms:

  • Direct observation of the learner’s performance by their assessor
  • Products of the learner’s work
  • Personal statements/reflective accounts
  • Professional discussion
  • Assignment, project/case studies, among others

Delivery

This is a work based qualification, aimed to be completed within 4 to 6 months via the below methods:

  • Classroom Teaching and Learning Sessions
  • One to One Sessions with your assessor
  • Observations in the workplace
  • Independent study and research
  • Paper-based and/or digital resources

Successful learners could progress onto Pearson Edexcel Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children’s Services (England) which contains six pathways, including three that may be appropriate progression, ‘Children’s Residential Management’, ‘Children’s Management’ and ‘Children’sAdvanced Practice’.

Funding subject to eligibility criteria:

  • Aged 19+
  • Living within GMCA (Greater Manchester Combined Authority) postcode
  • Having resided in the UK for more than 3 years, and able to access Public Funds
  • Learners without a full Level 3 qualification OR Learners that hold a full Level 3 qualification or higher and earn below £23,104
  • Must not currently be in receipt of government funding for another qualification
