Description

This qualification develops the knowledge and skills needed for working in care settings and is suitable for anyone employed as a senior care assistant, senior healthcare assistant, support worker or key worker in residential settings, community and primary care environments, acute health environments.

It contains both mandatory and optional units allowing learners to tailor the qualification to meet their needs, interests, preferred progression paths and the context of their own job role.

The qualification covers a wide range of areas such as:

  • Aspects of support
  • Specialisms
  • Clinical skills or healthcare tasks
  • Leadership and management skills

This qualification aims to:

focus on the study of the adult care worker role in care settings
offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge
provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills

The objectives of this qualification are to:

build knowledge and skills to work in adult care in health and social care settings in England
cover a wide range of areas allowing learners to tailor the qualification to meet their needs, interests, preferred progression paths and the context of their job role

What's Included

Units: Below are the mandatory units that MUST be completed:

Unit M1: Promote communication in care settings
Unit M2: Handling information in adult care
Unit M3: Promote own continuous personal and professional development
Unit M4: Person-centred practice, choice and independence
Unit M4B: Understand how to promote personal wellbeing
Unit M5: Promote equality, diversity, inclusion and human rights in care settings
Unit M6: Promote health and safety in care settings
Unit M6B: Support the health and wellbeing of individuals in a care setting
Unit M7: Scope and responsibilities of an adult care worker
Unit M8: Understand duty of care
Unit M9: Understand how to safeguard individuals
Unit M10: Understand mental capacity and restrictive practices
Unit M11: Infection prevention and control in a care settings

Delivery

This is a work based qualification, aimed to be completed within 6 to 9 months via the below methods:

  • Classroom Teaching and Learning Sessions
  • One to One Sessions with your assessor
  • Observations in the workplace
  • Independent study and research
  • Paper-based and/or digital resources

Successful learners could progress to:

  • Employment:
  • Lead Adult Care Worker
  • Senior Care Support Worker
  • Lead Personal Assistant
  • Further Education:
  • Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (England)
  • Higher Education

Upon successful completion of this qualification, candidates will be equipped with the appropriate levels of knowledge and understanding ensuring confident working practice.

Funding subject to eligibility criteria:

  • Aged 19+
  • Living within GMCA (Greater Manchester Combined Authority) postcode
  • Having resided in the UK for more than 3 years, and able to access Public Funds
  • Learners without a full Level 3 qualification OR Learners that hold a full Level 3 qualification or higher and earn below £23,104
  • Must not currently be in receipt of government funding for another qualification
